Gabrielle Micallef

Gabrielle Micallef, is a wife and mother of two healthy and beautiful boys, Joshua aged 3 and David 5.

Professionally she works part-time as a Psychologist in a private practice setting and has always been passionate about helping people and feels very privileged to share in people’s lives and stories.

As a mother, Gabrielle is acutely aware of the need for self care and personally practices mindfulness based skills and yoga to help her as she navigates the ups and downs of life.

Gabrielle has what she describes “come back from the depths of insanity twice following the births of both my boys”. She suffered from Postnatal Psychosis- a rare but serious mental health condition that can affect 1-2 in 1000 mums typically in the first 12 weeks. It causes significant changes in mood, thoughts and behaviors, including paranoia, hallucinations and delusional thinking.

Gabrielle survived and has now fully recovered and considers herself thriving and stronger than ever. She became a volunteer Community Champion for PANDA-the specialist not for profit organisation that provides vital information and support for women and their families in the antenatal and postnatal period. Her experiences have made her passionate to raise awareness about perinatal mental health and to use her story of pain and recovery to reduce the stigma around mental health and provide a message of hope.

She continues to share her story on many platforms to increase perinatal mental health awareness, raise funds for PANDA, educate the public and health professionals about the human experience behind perinatal mental health and advocate for improved specialist supports and services for parents and their families.
